A personal statement letter is a powerful communication tool that allows a job seeker with justice involvement to have control over disclosing their personal story around a conviction history. More importantly though, it allows a job seeker to put their conviction in context while also describing their own story of personal change, redemption and transformation. Regardless of whether someone was previously incarcerated or not, this statement can become a key component in a positive hiring outcome. An authentic, well- written. personal statement letter which expresses remorse and regret for decisions made and actions taken can positively influence a hiring manager or human resources professional to see an experience in a different light and move an individual’s candidacy forward. In addition to disclosing legal history candidates must communicate evidence of rehabilitation, a desire and readiness to work, and outline the transferable skills and experience they are ready to contribute. This webinar will describe components of a well written letter, Do’s and Don’ts, examples of evidence of rehabilitation to communicate and will also include examples of fictional letters.
