Columbia-Greene Disability Resources
Columbia-Greene Workforce NY provides comprehensive resources and support for individuals with disabilities, ensuring full accessibility to programs, services and employment opportunities. Our initiatives are designed to accommodate diverse needs, including assistive technologies, alternative formats, and personalized guidance, so that everyone can fully participate in skill development and career advancement.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive community where individuals with disabilities are empowered to achieve their professional goals, with equal access to training, job-related assistance, and career growth opportunities throughout the Columbia-Greene region.
Disability Resource Coordinators (DRCs)
DRCs are specialized staff who work to improve local workforce systems to better serve individuals with disabilities. Under NY SCION, DRCs will:
Capacity Building
- Increase the ability of Career Centers and surrounding career pathways programs to serve individuals with disabilities.
Resource Coordination
- Identify and utilize disability-related resources and partners, including:
- NYS Education Department (NYSED) Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR)
Office of Children and Family Services / NYS Commission for the Blind (OCFS/NYSCB) - Support collaboration around job seekers’ employment and training goals.
System Advisory
- Advise workforce development systems on effective strategies to promote participation of individuals with disabilities in career pathways programs.
Training and Assistance
- Train and assist:
- Local Workforce Development Boards (LWDBs)
- Career Center staff
- Businesses
- Community colleges
- Training providers
- Training topics include:
- Rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Ticket to Work (TTW) program
- Accommodations and assistive technology
- Assessments for career and training planning
Career Pathways Support
- Coordinate with direct service staff, including career coaches, in career pathway programs.
- Assist in recruiting individuals with disabilities, including TTW Ticket Holders, to participate in career pathways programs and Career Center services.
Career and Employment Guidance
- Identify career, training, and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities using assessments.
- Obtain and maintain credentials to provide benefits advisement and work incentive counseling for Social Security Administration (SSA) beneficiaries, including:
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Employment Network and Program Access
- Help expand the workforce system’s participation as an Employment Network (EN) under the TTW Program.
- Facilitate the assignment of appropriate Tickets to the Career Center through the New York Employment Services System (NYESS) Administrative Employment Network (AEN).
- Ensure individuals with disabilities can access all programs and services necessary to participate fully in career pathways programs.
Resource Leveraging
- Facilitate an effective approach to use resources that enable individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment and training goals.
