These services are free and available to adults who live in the two counties and who have limited reading and / or math skills. People interested should contact the phone number listed above.
Students are matched with a volunteer tutor and learn basic literacy and /or ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Tutoring is done once or twice a week at a public place, typically a library or town office. Time and place is decided on by the tutor and student. The method used to teach reading is a combination of phonics and whole language, using "authentic" materials that are relevant to the student.
